Economic Crystal Ball

Here's my prediction for the economy:

Obama has a very solid and decisive win on Nov 4. On Nov 5th, I think the Dow will jump 300 points. The rise will continue, but not as drastically.

I've recently been adding BleacherReport.com to the college football sites that I visit. I love the idea of it, it's an open source network. That means that anyone can post an article. They also have a Top 25 every Sunday. However, these are real people, not the stupid voters that actually get a vote. No surprise, I tend to agree more with the Bleacher Report's Top 25.

A couple of notes:
- Auburn should finally be out of the Top 25 now that they lost to a horrible Arkansas team (I saw through you this whole time, Tigers
- I was extremely skeptical about Ball State, but regardless of who you are, if you're 6-0 you should be in the top 25.
- OK vs TX was the most poorly officiated game of the week. Boise State vs So Miss was a close second.
- I've had Florida ranked higher than LSU and have been less than impressed with LSU the entire season.
- My prediction is that there will be only no more than 2 undefeated teams by the end of the year and neither of them will be a BCS team. If I had to guess, I'd say Boise and BYU (but I am pretty biased there).
- My new national championship game thoughts: USC vs Penn State or USC vs Florida.

The Sarah Palin Debate Flowchart

Monday, October 6, 2008

Presidents of these United States.

It seems strange to me that after seeing Obama more than handle McCain in the first debate, that I've still heard people say that Obama is too young and inexperienced to lead our country. That made me wonder, how old have other presidents been. After a little research, I found that Obama was born in Aug 1961 which would make him 47 when inaugurated. We've all heard that McCain would be the oldest person inaugurated as president, but how old have other presidents been?

Here are all of the U.S. presidents that were under 50 when inaugurated:
James Polk - 49
Franklin Pierce - 48
Ulysses Grant - 46
James Garfield - 49
Grover Cleveland - 47
Teddy Roosevelt - 42
JFK - 43
Bill Clinton - 46

That's 9 presidents under the age of 50, and 4 younger than Obama. I'm pretty sure you'd have a hard time placing those 4 on a list of worst presidents: Grant, Roosevelt, JFK, and Clinton. Unless I'm mistaken, two of those presidents have made their way to currency and one is on Mount Rushmore. Clinton left office with a 65% approval rating, compare that to Bush who hasn't been above 40% in over 2 years and is currently lingering in the 20's (http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm).

So, if our youngest president can build the Panama Canal, the second youngest can send us to the moon, the third youngest can balance the budget and give us a $600 billion surplus, and the fourth youngest can win the Civil War, I'm actually pretty excited to see what the fifth youngest can do.

The JD Top 25, week6.

I don't have enough time to list my reasoning this week. However, I will point out a couple of predictions that I've made that have come to pass: 1) Auburn lost to both LSU and Vandy. The second part of that prediction was that it would finally kick Auburn from the top 25. I'm not sure that voters will see it that way, but we'll see in a few hours. 2) USC reorganized after a loss to Oregon State to absolutely destroy Oregon. 3) Fresno State hangs with the big boys all season and then loses to a weak conference opponent.

1. Oklahoma
2. Missouri
3. Alabama
4. USC
5. Texas
6. Penn State
7. Florida
8. BYU
9. Georgia
10. LSU
11. Ohio State
12. Utah
13. Boise State
14. Vanderbilt
15. Texas Tech
16. Oklahoma State
17. Cal
18. USF
19. Tulsa
20. Kansas
21. Northwestern
22. TCU
23. Michigan State
24. Virginia Tech
25. Wisconsin

In my entry dated 8/19/08, I recommended that the Mountain West Conference add Boise State, Fresno, and Tulsa. Had that happened for this week, my rankings would have 5 teams from their conference in my top 25. And had Fresno not lost to a poor Hawaii team last night, they would also be in the top 25.

I couldn't have said it better

Here's a good quote for you:

"...at the end of the day, though, it is — it's so clear, again, what those choices are. Either new ideas, new energy and reform of Washington, D.C., or more of the same."

Sounds like Barack Obama, right? Well, it was actually Sarah Palin: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5h21ZbzgPbTVRftcJPT5vkHkonY5QD93HPGC81
